Barrett will construct terminal for MCST

Barrett Builders has begun construction of a 65,000-square-foot refrigerated terminal for MCST Preferred Transportation at Greenville Yards in Jersey City NJ. Fort Lee NJ-based Barrett is the designated redeveloper for Greenville Yards, having taken this 50-acre former brownfield site near Exit 14A of the New Jersey Turnpike and converted it into a prime industrial location.

This is the third facility to be built by Barrett at Greenville Yards, and the second for a Preferred affiliate. The first, completed in September 2000, was a 132,180-sq-ft refrigeration/freezer facility for Summit Import Corp, an Asian food distributor and importer. In December 2001, Barrett completed a 137,000-sq-ft frozen food warehouse/corporate office for Preferred Freezer Services of Jersey City Inc.

MCST is the transportation logistics arm of Preferred Freezer Services, which offers LTL intercity deliveries, specialized distribution, and long-haul services. MCST's new transportation terminal, directly across from Preferred's headquarters, will provide cross-docking, transloading and export consolidation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The 1.5 million-cubic-foot facility will also house the corporate office for one of the fastest-growing refrigerated logistics companies in the United States. Upon completion of the terminal in January 2003, MCST intends to open a nationwide distribution service there.
