Costa Fruit goes the extra mile for food bank

When Costa Fruit and Produce learned of The Greater Boston Food Bank's need for qualified Class A drivers, they provided one of their senior drivers to help in distribution of food and grocery products. Besides the roughly 20,000 pounds of produce Costa donates to The Greater Boston Food Bank every year, Costa made this driver available to The Greater Boston Food Bank throughout the summer.

The Greater Boston Food Bank, which distributes food and grocery products to more than 750 hunger-relief organizations throughout eastern Massachusetts, faces increases in demand for food during summer, when schools are out of session. Many area families rely on lunches provided by their school to keep children well-fed. When schools are out of session, many of them turn to The Greater Boston Food Bank's feeding programs for assistance.

Out of a pool of drivers, Patrick Kenny of Revere MA was given the project because of his seniority at Costa. Kenny, who has driven trucks for 17 years, has worked for Costa for four years.
