Suffolk Cold Storage uses HighJump technology

Suffolk Cold Storage has achieved impressive results from using HighJump Software’s WMS (warehouse management system) in the Cloud and its TrueCommerce EDI (electronic data interchange) system.

Based in Suffolk VA, Suffolk Cold Storage is a regional third-party logistics (3PL) company specializing in temperature-controlled storage and distribution for fresh and frozen meat and seafood products. As a division of Wanchese Fish Company, the company handles 13 million cases (260,000,000 lbs) of perishable food products annually.

“A cloud-based system enabled us to focus entirely on business operations rather than back office systems. This resulted in a near total reduction of expensive IT staff,” said Jim Stoddard, general manager at Suffolk Cold Storage. “Now we only have one system administrator to oversee operation and maintenance.”

The new HighJump WMS and EDI systems have driven overall productivity for the company. Over the course of its first year using this WMS, Suffolk reduced its overall staff head count by 22%. Also, because the system is easy to use and has nearly 100% uptime, Suffolk employees spend little time actually thinking about the systems in place—they just use them. Productivity has increased 40%, and the company is expecting an 80% reduction in lost or misplaced product.

All EDI transactions are processed by the TrueCommerce EDI system—nearly 20,000 transactions each month. In addition, cold storage facilities that house and distribute food and beverage products must comply with a number of Food and Drug Administration regulations for tracking and reporting, so the EDI and WMS systems must work seamlessly to provide on-demand reports and visibility across the entire business.

HighJump Software has systems for distribution and logistics, direct store delivery, trading partner connectivity, mobility, and manufacturing. They cover warehouse management, transportation management, route accounting, manufacturing execution, mobile sales, ERP data collection, and the TrueCommerce EDI platform.
