ID Systems Inc (NASDAQ: IDSY), a provider of wireless M2M asset management systems, has executed a contract with Knight Transportation Inc (NYSE: KNX), one of North America’s largest truckload carriers, to expand Knight’s deployment of VeriWise trailer management solutions from ID Systems’ Asset Intelligence subsidiary.
Knight, an Asset Intelligence customer since 2000, will add more than 400 tracking systems to its trailer fleet under the contract, including VeriWise Reefer Control systems for refrigerated trailers and VeriWise Dry Van systems, with cargo sensing, for dry van trailers.
“We have tightly integrated VeriWise fleet management technology into our trailer operations and view it as a significant competitive advantage,” said Steve Grover, Knight’s senior vice-president of technology and innovation. “VeriWise systems provide effective, reliable visibility and situational awareness of our trailer fleets to help us optimize asset utilization, minimize costs, and improve customer service.”
These asset tracking systems combine sensor, wireless, and web technologies to provide real-time visibility and control of trailers and their cargo. The systems automatically identify, analyze, and respond to critical transportation issues to improve efficiency and security of logistics operations.
VeriWise Dry Van is an advanced trailer monitoring system with patented full-length cargo detection sensors and solar charging technology. The system reports reliable, uninterrupted trailer location and loaded/unloaded status—even if the trailer is disconnected from tractor power for an extended period. This results in faster trailer turns, increased asset utilization, improved cargo security, and optimal fleet efficiency.
VeriWise Reefer is a refrigerated trailer management system that has been integrated with both Thermo King and Carrier Transicold. It allows users to manage temperature set points remotely and react to problems quickly, with real-time alerts based on automatic exception data analysis.
VeriWise Track & Trace is a low-cost asset tracking system that provides real-time data to improve efficiency and security of trailer and container fleets. It is designed for quick, flexible installation on a range of cargo-carrying assets, with patented power management technology to provide long battery life and years of maintenance-free operation.
Phoenix AZ-based Knight is one of North America’s largest and most diversified truckload transportation companies, with a fleet of about 9,000 trailers and 2013 revenue of $969 million. For more information, go to www.knighttrans.com.
