Capitalizing on the recent launch of its new “Advanced Classic” International LoneStar Class 8 tractor (see Refrigerated Transporter April), Navistar International has introduced an exclusive new line of premium parts and accessories called DoubleSix Customs. At the same time, officials announced that the company is on track with its product developments.
The newest diesel engines to its MaxxForce International Diesel Power line — the big bore MaxxForce 11 liter and MaxxForce 13 liter — will hit the marketplace this month, said Dee Kapur, president of the Navistar Truck Group. These engines will be available in International's WorkStar severe service, TranStar regional-haul, and ProStar long-haul vehicles.
With electronic programmable features and parameters, the engines have a compacted graphite iron block for strength with less weight. International is the first North American manufacturer to offer this block material. The block also features a unique acoustic design to dampen noise.
The MaxxForce 11 and 13 provide outstanding fuel economy, and low noise, vibration, and harshness, with the highest power-to-weight ratio in the industry,” added Steve Gilligan, assistant general manager of Navistar's Heavy Vehicle Center.
To meet 2010 diesel engine emissions standards, MaxxForce engines will use exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology rather than selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems that “presents numerous challenges,” Kapur said. Among these, they “would add as much as 500 pounds and $4,000 to $5,000 per vehicle.”
Beginning this fall, International's proprietary MaxxPower auxiliary power unit will be available as a fully integrated factory-installed and factory-warranted option on International Trucks. The unit saves fuel by automatically turning off the engine after 10 minutes of idling.
“MaxxPower will allow the average long haul tractor owner to reduce fuel costs by almost $40,000 over a five-year period, said Gilligan. “It will cost the average buyer approximately $7,500 and pay for itself in roughly the first year of use.”
Rounding out International's ProStar lineup of on-highway aerodynamic tractors is the new ProStar Skyrise, which provides more than 53 cubic feet of storage, and the 113-inch BBC model.
Just introduced is Navistar's exclusive new premium line of truck customization parts and accessories, called DoubleSix Customs. The line, offering several exclusive designs from custom truck and auto manufacturing, consists of an initial offering of 23 exterior and 17 interior parts. These include custom sunvisors, light bars and panels, exhausts, shifter accessories, and door handles.
“The name of this new parts line derives from the importance of Route 66 to the American trucker,” said Rommel Miranda, Navistar Parts vice-president, sales and marketing.
DoubleSix Customs products will be available beginning in the fall, only through the International dealer network.
