Gordon Food Service held a grand opening celebration recently at its 420,000-square-foot distribution center in Imperial PA, 16 miles west of Pittsburgh.
Attending the event were Lance Chimka, regional director of the Governor’s Action Team; Bob Hurley, director of Allegheny County Economic Development; Gordon Food Service Ohio Valley Division Assistant General Manager Mike Arnold; and Dan Gordon, Gordon Food Service chairman of the board. Several state and local officials, as well as Gordon Food Service customers and employees, also were present. This distribution center began shipping in May and now employs 200 people. The company expects to employ 300 people within three to five years.
“We congratulate Gordon Food Service on the opening of its new facility in Allegheny County,” said Chimka. “The company’s investment and commitment to the creation of new jobs is great news for the commonwealth, and we look forward to supporting their continued growth.”
“Allegheny County is very excited to celebrate the grand opening of the new Gordon Food Service distribution center in Findlay Township,” said Hurley. “This investment is a testament to the attractiveness and desirability of the airport area for all types of business uses.”
Gordon Food Service continues to expand its distribution network to serve its growing base of customers. With Imperial’s business climate and proximity to customers, this distribution center helps position the company for future growth in the Northeast region.
The company serves customers from 24 distribution centers in North America. Including the new Imperial facility, the 16 US distribution centers are in Grand Rapids (two) and Brighton (two) MI; Kenosha WI; Springfield OH; Imperial and Pottsville PA; Taunton MA (doing business as Perkins); Aberdeen MD; Shepherdsville KY; Houston (doing business as Glazier Foods) and Coppell TX; Douglasville GA; and Miami and Plant City FL. Another distribution center is under construction in Kannapolis NC. There are eight distribution centers in Canada.
