Wegmans upgrades SureCheck system

ParTech Inc (PAR), a subsidiary of PAR Technology Corporation, announced that Wegmans will be upgrading its existing SureCheck food safety system to PAR’s SureCheck Advantage Solution for all 95 stores.

The fully integrated SureCheck Advantage platform with its automated temperature probe, barcode scanner and RFID infrared temperature readers will replace Wegmans’ Motorola MC-55 handheld devices being used with the earlier version of PAR’s Temperature Measuring Device (TMD).

Wegmans, a 95-store supermarket chain founded in 1916 in Rochester NY, established the Consumer Affairs Department in 1971 to act as the voice of the consumer inside the company and to educate shoppers about nutrition, food safety and other food issues.

The Wegmans Food Safety Department was seeking to implement a technology based solution when PAR SureCheck was first deployed in November 2015. SureCheck replaced the paper-and-pencil recording methods Wegmans was using and provided improved food safety reporting consistency across all stores.

Wegmans decided to upgrade to SureCheck Advantage based on the all-in-one unit capabilities. The upgrade consists of 885 SureCheck Advantage units.

Starting in 2015, the Federal Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) requires that businesses collect, record and retain two years of historical food safety compliance records. The PAR SureCheck Advantage Solution, a state-of-the-art food safety and checklist system, captures required data in real-time and synchronizes it to the SureCheck cloud for seamless, automated storage and recall of food safety records for management, maintenance, analytics and auditing.

SureCheck Advantage provides increased operational efficiencies with its integrated temperature probe, barcode scanner and RFID infrared temperature readers. It assures Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) compliance and has been shown to improve operational efficiencies by up to 60% over traditional pen and paper.

The Software-as-a-Service model (SaaS) and cloud-based enterprise server helps maintain accurate records for auditing and analytics. The 5-inch handheld hardware device, designed for food quality and task management, is powered by Intel Atom Processor technology.
