SpartanNash has named Tom Lee (pictured) senior vice-president, supply chain. He will oversee the food distributor’s supply chain, logistics, transportation and inventory management departments, and will report to Dave Staples, president and chief operating officer. From 2015 to 2017, Lee served as vice-president, merchandising operations, US e-commerce for Walmart. Before that, he served as vice-president, supply chain innovations, global e-commerce for Walmart. He has also held supply chain leadership positions for Henry Schein and Office Depot and has been a senior-level consultant for both Ernst & Young and KPMG.
SOMMA Foods has appointed Michelle Reitzin-Bass director of sales for the western United States. She will be responsible for establishing SOMMA’s presence as a provider of clean label chicken, beef and dairy products for foodservice in the region. Reitzin-Bass has more than 30 years of experience in foodservice sales and marketing. She previously served as director of sales and marketing at Buena Vista Foods and also played a key role in the growth and sales success of Integrated Food Service and Don Lee Farms.
The Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA) announced that Jason Beardall (pictured), president of England Logistics, recently began his term as the elected chairman of TIA. With more than 1,600 member companies, TIA aims to encourage and promote third-party logistics professionals by providing services such as education, professional connections and other resources. An active member of TIA for more than 13 years, Beardall has served as a board member and executive committee member, as well as participated on various committees.
Navistar International Corporation announced that Phil Christman has been promoted to president, operations, effective immediately. His responsibilities will include procurement, product development, manufacturing and supply chain, and he will report to Persio Lisboa, Navistar’s chief operating officer. Christman has been with Navistar for nearly 30 years. He has held leadership roles in engineering, led Navistar’s severe service and global businesses, ran procurement and supply chain functions, and most recently served as senior vice-president, Joint Strategic Operations & Planning.
Third-party supply chain solutions provider Johanson Transportation Service (JTS) has promoted Jeff Mosqueda (pictured) to vice-president of sales–Temperature-Controlled Division at the company’s headquarters in Fresno CA. He began his JTS career as a sales & logistics coordinator in the Fresno Perishable Freight Division. In January 2016, he was promoted to manager of perishable freight. In that year, he completed a one-year training program with the Produce Marketing Association’s Center for Growing Talent, called the “CGTbyPMA Emerging Leaders Program.”
US Foods Holding Corporation announced that Ty Gent has joined the company as chief supply chain officer. He will oversee all warehousing, transportation and supply chain strategy and operations on behalf of the company, as well as safety programs and real estate. Before joining US Foods, Gent served as senior vice-president of operations for PepsiCo Central and South America regions. He previously served as senior vice-president of logistics for PepsiCo North America, where he led the warehouse delivery network for Quaker, Gatorade and Tropicana, as well as the PepsiCo Transportation network for North America.
The opening of a new office in Houston TX is the latest addition to Allen Lund Company’s growth for 2017. The Houston office will be managed by Michael Keep (pictured), who comes with 11 years of transportation experience in areas such as refrigerated, hazmat, flatbed, contract management, and LTL. Keep attended Mississippi State University and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management.
Bay and Bay Transportation of Eagan MN has named Mike Venegoni president of its logistics division. Previously, he served as vice-president of operations for CRST Logistics. Founded in 1941, Bay and Bay operates 400 trucks in refrigerated and tank fleets. Its logistics division is one of the top 50 freight brokers in the United States, providing truckload, intermodal and LTL services throughout North America.
