More Information Technology Expected from 3PL Providers
A recent survey found that customers of third-party logistics services (3PLs) have significant interest in the ability of 3PLs to provide information technology-based services. The study also indicates that 80% of 3PL users said integration of transportation and distribution systems was important.
These are among the highlights of the fifth annual logistics survey conducted by Exel, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and The University of Tennessee's Center for Logistics Research.
Among other findings of the study were:
The market for 3PL services is growing 18% to 22% annually.
More than 80% of customers are satisfied with their logistics service providers.
Overall results suggest that 73% of respondents use 3PL services.
Of survey respondents needing international supply chains, 21% indicated 3PLs were definitely making progress.
