Quinn, Canary to Address Users' Conference

Patrick Quinn, 2001-2002 chairman of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), and William J Canary, interim president and chief executive officer of the American Trucking Associations (ATA), will be featured speakers at the McLeod Software 11th annual Users' Conference, set for Sept 26-29, 2001, in Birmingham AL. Quinn is scheduled to speak September 27 during the opening general assembly, and Canary will speak September 28 at the general assembly.

A long-time member of TCA, Quinn has served on several committees and management panels. He is also active in the ATA, where he was vice-chairman of the Litigation Center and chairman of the ATA Image Advisory Committee. He was recipient of the 1997 Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Nebraska and is a member of the board of directors of Transcommunications Inc.

A former special assistant to President Bush for intergovernmental affairs, Canary also served as chief of staff for the Republican National Committee and on Republican presidential campaign and convention committees. Canary is a commentator and political analyst for both NBC's affiliate WSFA and Alabama Public Television in Montgomery AL for election night coverage, and weekly public affairs programs. He also is a co-author of The Alabama Poll.

Seminar to Examine Distribution Center Layout

The Logistics Institute at Georgia Tech is offering Warehouse/Distribution Center Layout, a working seminar based on Systematic Layout Planning. Scheduled for Oct 15-17, 2001, at the Renaissance Atlanta Hotel Downtown in Atlanta GA, this course is part of a series of courses leading to a Logistics Professional Certificate. Environmental Support Solutions ( announced that its EPA Refrigerant Compliance Management and Indoor Air Quality Management training seminars will be coming Oct 24, 2001, to Houston TX.

The EPA Refrigerant Compliance Management seminar focuses on compliance surrounding regulated refrigerants. This four-hour course is designed for property managers, facility managers, chief engineers, environmental health and safety personnel, and maintenance supervisors.

The Indoor Air Quality Management seminar focuses on how building managers can control indoor environments. This seminar shows attendees how to complete a management plan and implementation system and provides building managers with information, documents, and tools to monitor and correct indoor air quality problems.

Arizona to Be Site of UTA Annual Convention

The Used Truck Association (UTA) will hold its second annual convention Nov 8-10, 2001, at the Rio Rico Resort & Country Club in Rio Rico AZ. The theme for this event is “Where Opportunity And Experience Converge.”

Among the presenters will be Sid Hurlbert, who will address “How to Smile, Laugh, and Have Fun With Customers, Fellow Employees, and Even Those You Live With.” Transportation information consultant Martin Labbe of Martin Labbe Associates will provide a report on the state of the trucking industry.

Also on the agenda is the UTA Think Tank. Open to all attendees, it will encompass panel and roundtable discussions on vehicle auctions, valuations, financing, and used-truck oversupply.

During the Allied Member program, industry suppliers and vendors will offer updates and developments about their products and services. Other convention program highlights include: a golf tournament, trail ride, and western barbecue.
