Choptank Transport is teaming up with the Maryland Motor Truck Association (MMTA) to celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW), taking place September 11-17, 2016.
Traditionally, Choptank has celebrated NTDAW by choosing one day during the observance to meet and greet drivers and owner-operators at a busy truck stop or rest area in Maryland or Delaware.
“This year is especially exciting,” said Paul Wood, Choptank’s director of carrier services. “We’ve joined forces with MMTA to say ‘thank you’ to the men and women who keep the nation’s freight moving. Being responsible for 40 tons on the road is not an easy job. It often means days away from home navigating through all kinds of weather and difficult traffic conditions, while being under pressure to deliver cargo on time. The job they do is truly admirable. It’s nice to celebrate this once a year, but we should be thankful for their hard work and dedication all year long.”
Louis Campion, MMTA president and chief executive officer, also praised today’s truck drivers.
“Maryland is one of the most truck-dependent states in the country,” he said. “Ninety-three percent of all Maryland communities depend solely on professional truck drivers to deliver their goods. Professional truck drivers keep the shelves of our local supermarkets stocked, deliver medicine to hospitals, and are among the first to respond in severe weather as they bring critical goods to aid in recovery. We are pleased to recognize them for their efforts to keep the economy moving safely and efficiently.
Truck drivers passing through Elkton MD on Friday, September 16 can stop by the Elkton Travel America Center/Petro Truck Stop off Interstate 95 at exit 109B. Choptank and MMTA will be handing out gift bags to drivers that stop and say hello from 12:30 pm to 4 pm. The travel plaza also will offer various discounts throughout the day.
A third-party logistics provider headquartered in Preston MD, Choptank also has offices in Tampa FL, Atlanta GA, Denver CO, and Dallas TX. The firm specializes in truckload freight, refrigerated and dry van, LTL, intermodal, and flatbed. For more details, see www.choptanktransport.com.
