Crowley adds 400 reefer containers

Crowley Maritime Corporation has added 400 new refrigerated containers to its fleet in time for the peak winter produce refrigerated cargo season.

The 40-foot containers were delivered recently at Puerto Limon in Costa Rica and will be distributed throughout Central America. The state-of-the-art units were purchased to accommodate future growth and replace older units.

The new Carrier PrimeLINE containers offer scroll compressor technology (inspired by the chambered nautilus shellfish), making them efficient and reliable. They work with environmentally friendly refrigerants and use 16% to 20% less energy than earlier models.

Since 2003, Crowley has invested almost a quarter of a billion dollars in cargo equipment for its liner services fleet.

The company owns and leases more than 44,000 pieces of specialized equipment, including more than 3,000 refrigerated containers, more than 20,394 chassis, and 18,280 dry containers. All of these come in a variety of sizes and are used in the United States, Central America, and the Caribbean.
