Werner enrolls 5,000th veteran in program

Transportation and logistics provider Werner Enterprises (NASDAQ: WERN) has announced the enrollment of the 5,000th veteran in its Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program.

Charles Doster, from Cordele GA, is the 5,000th veteran to use his or her GI Bill benefits to enroll in Werner’s apprenticeship program. Currently, he serves in the Georgia Army National Guard as a truck driver/supply specialist. Doster attended Roadmaster Drivers School in Jacksonville FL before joining Werner.

“Werner deeply values and appreciates all veterans and their spouses for the sacrifices they make while serving our country,” said Jim Morbach, associate vice-president of student and government recruiting. “It has been our mission to create the best career opportunities available for veterans transitioning to civilian careers.”

In 2006, Werner partnered with the US Department of Labor and the Department of Veterans Affairs to start the industry’s first Professional Truck Driver Apprenticeship Program.
