Merchandise Warehouse Co cuts ribbon on reefer facility

Merchandise Warehouse Company’s new, multi-temperature facility opened with a ribbon-cutting August 30, 2016, at 1414 South West Street in Indianapolis IN, with Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, Rob Adams of Tippmann Innovation, and Tim Siddiq of Merchandise Warehouse doing the honors.

The 100,000-square-foot, technologically advanced refrigerated warehouse adds to Merchandise Warehouse’s existing 400,000 square feet of cold storage. One of Indiana’s leading cold storage operators, the company turned to Tippmann Innovation (TI) to develop this cutting-edge facility.

This new building is totally convertible, allowing Merchandise Warehouse to cater to a variety of clients, including food, grocery, and pharmaceutical, whose products demand a range of temperatures. The facility can be operated from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to –10 degrees Fahrenheit, with a Radioshuttle system for high-density pallet racking. Radioshuttle is a semi-automated, remotely controlled storage and retrieval system that allows for a maximum use of warehouse space.

“Today is a great day—not just for Merchandise Warehouse, but also for the city of Indianapolis,” said Hogsett during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We come together knowing that this project will mean not just economic development, but  also community development for the southwest side of our city.”

“Tippmann Innovation helped us with new thinking, beyond the scope of our original parameters, and was able to help us design a building with 25% more pallet positions—and this is good for our customers,” said Siddiq, president and chief executive officer of Merchandise Warehouse.

TI provides a full suite of cold storage construction services, including quick freeze, blast freezing, master site planning, and operations and maintenance guidance. Its innovations include the patented QuickFreeze in-rack freezing system that takes blast freezing to the next level, QuickTemper in-rack tempering system, and T2 spacer system. TI has offices in Indiana, Illinois, and Florida and operates internationally.
