In the wake of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 win, North Carolina-based Butterball LLC backed up the friendly wager Gov Pat McCrory made with Colorado Gov John Hinckenlooper by paying out five 50-case donations of turkey products across four food banks in North Carolina and Colorado.
Butterball donated 250 cases of turkey products that will support food banks in both Super Bowl teams’ home states by providing about 20,000 meals for those in need.
As part of a pre-game bet between the two governors, McCrory offered to work with Butterball to donate 50 cases of turkey burgers and 50 cases of turkey sausages to a Colorado food bank if the Broncos won the game. Butterball agreed to participate in the wager, and suggested upping the ante even after the Panthers lost. In addition to the original 100-case bet, Butterball committed to donate an extra 50 cases of turkey product to three North Carolina food banks for a total of 250 cases.
Beneficiaries of the North Carolina donations include the Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte NC; the Durham Rescue Mission in Durham NC; and the Raleigh Rescue Mission in Raleigh NC. All Butterball donations include proper tailgating items—turkey burgers and sausage.
Second Harvest, including the Charlotte location, is a branch of the Feeding America network of food banks. According to this network’s website, donations are urgently needed and gratefully accepted:
